Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it, who helps us run smarter.football, and how to see, change or delete your information.

EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 25, 2026

THE SHORT VERSION

  • We collect your name, email address, the teams you follow and, if you write to us, your message.
  • We use it to send you updates on your teams and to reply to you.
  • We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with sponsors or advertisers.
  • Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your information at any time.

1. Who we are

smarter.football is an independent email publication covering NFL and college football teams. It is operated by [LEGAL NAME OF OPERATOR], [MAILING ADDRESS] ("smarter.football," "we" or "us"). smarter.football is not affiliated with the NFL, the NCAA or any team.

This policy covers the smarter.football website and the emails we send. For any privacy question or request, email [PRIVACY EMAIL ADDRESS].

2. Information we collect

When you sign up. Your first and last name, email address, the teams you choose to follow, and your consent to receive our emails.

When you contact us. Your name, email address, the topic you pick and your message.

When you change your teams. The email address you enter to get a link, and the teams you save. To block automated abuse, a bot check on that form receives technical information from your browser, such as your IP address.

When you read our emails. Our email provider records whether an email was delivered and opened and which links were clicked. It does this with a small tracking image and tracked links, which is standard for email newsletters.

When you visit the site. The services that host the site and load its fonts receive technical information that every browser sends, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested. We don't add advertising trackers or third-party analytics to the site.

If you buy Pro. Payments are handled by Stripe. We receive your name, email address, plan, the billing details Stripe shares with us (such as country and postal code) and payment status. We never see or store your full card number.

3. How we use your information

  • To send you the updates you signed up for, covering only the teams you chose, addressed to you by name
  • To manage your subscription, including your teams, your plan and unsubscribe requests
  • To email you a one-time link when you ask to change your teams
  • To reply to messages you send us
  • To understand which teams, topics and emails readers find useful, so we can improve coverage
  • To process payments, manage Pro subscriptions and provide Pro features
  • To prevent spam and abuse, and to comply with the law

We build each team's update from public sports information, using our own technology and outside software tools, and real people review every email before it sends. Those tools work only with public sports information. We don't give them your name, email address or any other personal information.

4. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the service providers that help us run smarter.football, and only so they can do that work for us:

  • Kit sends our emails and stores subscriber records and preferences.
  • Stripe processes Pro payments and lets you update your card, switch plans or cancel. Stripe handles your card details under its own privacy policy.
  • Cloudflare runs the service that keeps your subscription in sync, sends one-time links for changing your teams, and checks forms for bots.
  • Wirechunk hosts this website and receives the signup and contact forms.
  • Google Fonts delivers the typefaces this site uses.

We don't sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising. Sponsors can sponsor a team's coverage, but they never receive our subscriber list or your information.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of our readers or others, or as part of a sale or transfer of smarter.football. Any new owner would have to follow this policy.

5. Links, sponsors and offers

Our emails link to original reporting and may include sponsor messages or affiliate links to tickets and team merchandise. If you click one of those links, the other site's privacy policy applies, and it may use cookies to credit us for a purchase.

6. Your choices

  • Change your teams at smarter.football/teams, linked at the bottom of every email and page. We'll email you a one-time link.
  • Unsubscribe using the link in any email. We'll stop sending to you right away.
  • Manage or cancel Pro through the billing portal linked at smarter.football/teams. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period.
  • Ask what we hold, correct it or delete it by emailing [PRIVACY EMAIL ADDRESS]. We'll respond within 30 days.
  • Turn off images in your email app to stop open tracking.

These choices are available to every reader, wherever you live. We may need to confirm your request comes from the email address on file.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your subscriber information while you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a do-not-send list so you don't receive emails by mistake. If you ask us to delete your information, we'll delete it within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep it. One-time team links expire after 30 minutes. We keep contact-form messages for up to 12 months, and payment records as long as tax and accounting rules require.

8. How we protect it

We use established providers that protect data in transit and at rest, and we limit access to the people who run smarter.football. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your information, we'll notify you as the law requires.

9. Children

smarter.football isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has signed up, email us and we'll delete the information.

10. Where your information is processed

smarter.football is run from the United States, and our service providers process information in the United States. If you sign up from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred there.

11. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell subscribers by email before it takes effect.
